
Dr. Sarah M. McKay (she/her/hers) is a licensed psychologist and certified forensic evaluator in Oregon. She offers competency, criminal responsibility, and mitigation evaluations. She also has expertise in violence, stalking, and fire-setting risk assessments.
Dr. McKay completed a master’s in education (M.Ed.) in counseling at the University of Puget Sound in 2012. She then completed a doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD) at the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, California in 2016. Dr. McKay completed an AAPIC internship at the Alexandria Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana and her post-doctoral supervision at Oregon State Hospital.
In addition to opening her private practice, Ostara Forensics & Counseling in 2021, Dr. McKay also has been employed at the Oregon State Hospital since 2016, fulfilling a variety of roles. She worked on a civil commitment unit specializing in severe and persistent mental illness before transferring to a forensic unit that catered to personality disordered GEI patients. This unit was the first Linehan-certified inpatient DBT unit in the country. Since 2020, Dr. McKay has served as a risk psychologist, completing risk assessments for patients under the PSRB who are seeking conditional release. Dr. McKay also serves as the chair of the Psychology Peer Review Committee and co-chair of the Risk Assessment Committee.
Dr. McKay also serves as a supervisor for psychology practicum students and LPC graduates seeking licensure.
